As I said last month, Travel Portland recently coined the tag line “You Can in Portland”. I think this is a good starting point for the 2019 Value Summit.
Just to have some fun, I turned their tag line around a bit, so I could think in terms of functions and started asking myself the following question, filling in the blank with functions attendees can do.
At the 2019 Value Summit in Portland, you can _____
- Earn certification Professional Development Units just by attending;
- Present a paper to share your experiences;
- Take a course to expand your skills;
- Present a course to share your skills with others;
- Network with others to build and reinforce contacts;
- Advertise or promote your business;
- Meet new and existing clients;
- Meet new and existing service providers;
- Learn more about the Value Methodology;
- Contribute to your Society; and,
- Have fun!
Above are just my favorites, and for the purposes of this article, I expanded the functions to better illustrate them. It doesn’t take long to see the wide range of ways “You Can in Portland” within the context of the 2019 Value Summit. The next fun part was expanding on each of the above and the different ways attendees could do them at the Summit. What can you add to the list?
Two of the important functions to think about now are presenting a paper and presenting a workshop.
The initial Call for Papers and Workshop submissions was issued on August 13. I hope you have already been thinking about what you would like to present at the 2019 Value Summit. One slight change to keep in mind is that we will be asking authors to clearly demonstrate how their paper ties to one or more of our core competencies. See the updated Paper Submission Guidelines for more details.
Lastly, it is never too early to jump in as a sponsor for the Summit. Sponsorship is very important – without it, we cannot have a quality event at a reasonable cost. More details about our sponsorship and exhibit opportunities will be published soon.
Your enthusiastic and dedicated 2019 Value Summit Planning Committee, with the help of the SAVE Cascadia Chapter, is off to a running start. Please plan on being in Portland, Oregon June 8-11, 2019 for the 2019 Value Summit.
