This month’s issue of Value World features articles that focus on innovation and on taking an informed, detailed approach towards applying the Value Methodology and getting the best result.
As practitioners, all of us are sold on the worth of VM, but innovations around the fringes of the process are worth examining to always remain on the leading edge. This can involve details in how the work is executed, or even staffing to support value when the study is complete. Practitioners Timme Hendrikson and Koen Schmitz propose the use of a “value coach” to shepherd the project through implementation and establish continuity through a project’s lifecycle.
A scientific approach to new experiments can help to reveal the pluses and minuses of innovations. Author Damon Yeutter investigates virtual value studies, from the opportunities for multinational cooperation to the discovery of communication challenges apparent when team members cannot see each other.
Many of our fellow practitioners describe the benefits of maintaining awareness in their local communities and industries with the sort of diligence bred from attention to detail. In Michael Pearsall’s Transportation Column, he muses on the importance of remaining up-to-date and on the ball from a self-marketing standpoint in order to act on prevailing momentum and encourage participation in VE. In addition, Renee Hoekstra describes the Arizona Chapter’s method of using education partnerships with the American Public Works Association to advocate for the increased use of VE by public and private local entities.
In keeping with our focus on the new, this month will mark our last as the Editors of Value World, passing the torch for a new Editor-in-Chief to carry. We would both like to emphasize that it has been a true honor to present the wonderful work of the VM community to our Members, and we would especially like to thank Melissa Baldwin and the people at Talley Management Group for all their fantastic efforts, along with all of the SAVE International Board Members who churned out invaluable columns each month.
