By Katherine Bethany, FSAVE – President, SAVE International
September was a very important month for the SAVE International Board of Directors. We spent a full two days in Portland, OR (at the hotel where we are going to hold the 2019 Value Summit) in a Strategic Planning session. Along with all but one board member, we included three additional participants to make sure we had all of the various audiences/types of members represented as we debated the future direction of the Society.
The results of the session included revised Vision and Mission statements. These are:
- Vision: “Inspiring improvement through the realization of value.”
- Mission: “Generate excitement and achieve a global demand for the Value Methodology by promoting, advocating, certifying and educating.”
Along with these revisions we prioritized the need to find a consistent way to describe the methodology. This led to the realization that the work Rob Stewart, SAVE’s Director of Education, is undertaking to create a Value Methodology Body of Knowledge (VMBOK) is critical to reaching this goal.
By now you should have received an email from the SAVE business office asking for your comments on the glossary of key terms and an overview of this important work under taken by Rob and his team. Please take the time to review and comment on this effort. If you did not receive the email, please contact the SAVE business office at info@value-eng.org. As this effort will be complete (the whole VMBOK) by June, the review periods will be limited to two weeks – so do not delay your review! Your voice and opinions are very important to us, and we want you to be heard.
