Reflections on the 2024 Value Summit – a Global Perspective

By Dr.-Ing. Marc Pauwels, CVS, TVM, FSAVE – Director of Global Affairs, SAVE International

The 2024 Value Summit was a success with around 230 participants from all over the world. Meeting with old and new friends after two years was a great experience and pleasure. Presentations were held throughout the Summit, but the International Forum focused on the value industry around the globe.

Around 30 attendees came together at the International Forum to learn from each other about similarities and differences in the delivery of value methodology in different parts of the world. In an open forum, presentations and information from representative from Canada, Germany, Hungary, India, Japan, Netherlands and Switzerland were made and everyone participated and added their own specific regional input.

What is going on in the regions?

Canada has implemented the very successful format of Value Voices. Covid forced all of us to think about different ways of exchanging information and experiences and to continue discussions among the value community. Value Voices are held every other month and include a presentation on a topic related to value. Germany has a similar concept called Value Talks.

Hungary is working on finalizing an agreement with the Budapest Corvinus University. The plan is to communicate the Value Methodology (VM) to the students and focus on the younger generation. The International Value Conference will be held in Budapest November 21-22, 2024 with the theme “New Competencies on the Horizon.

Japan is also focusing on learning, but more on the practitioners side. The Society of Japanese Value Engineering (SJVE) has set up the Value Design Academy (VDA) and established a new educational program. They want to support the Value Practitioners in their pursuit to become a Certified Value Specialist (CVS) within two years.

The Netherlands continues to ask questions such as “Are we still targeting the right audience with our trainings and certification program?” and “How to take into account different levels of the value maturity of organizations, including the CVS?” I am sure that the discussions will continue as we must not stand still but always ask ourselves what possible improvements exist!

India is proud to be hosting the 2025 Value Summit in New Delhi in September 2025. This year the Indian Value Engineering Society (INVEST) invites everyone to attend the 2024 Value Conference in Bhubaneshwar November 15-16, 2024.

Switzerland has also formed its own value organization and informed the attendees about the status.

Everyone is invited to continue the discussions and contact the international value organizations for further information.
