By Patrice Miller, CVS – Vice President, SAVE International Arizona Chapter
The Arizona Chapter of SAVE International represented our organization at the APWA Arizona Chapter statewide conference on August 10-12, 2016 at the Hilton El Conquistador (Tucson, AZ). The conference theme “The New Normal: Innovative Routes to Meet Public Expectations” is emblematic of what many agencies are still faced with – reduced budgets and staffing levels. However, the public still demands and expects uninterrupted, high quality public services. To meet these challenges, public works professionals and their private sector partners must find new and innovative ways to provide the best services possible using limited taxpayer dollars, while at the same time managing the expectations and perceptions of the public and elected officials. And, this is exactly what the value methodology can deliver!
Each year, the APWA Arizona Chapter invites SAVE to have a presence at their conference; this is a generous offer which we appreciate and believe is a win-win for both organizations as, according to conference committee – “SAVE brings some of the best conference speakers.” This year was no exception. In addition to the SAVE booth, the following speakers presented on behalf of SAVE:
- Arnecia Williams, AVS, USACE Los Angeles District “Value Engineering for Ecosystem Restoration Project Using Enhanced Methodologies”
- Doug Williams, Flood Control District of Maricopa County “How the FCDMC Uses Value Management Tools in Early Project Planning”
The SAVE Arizona Chapter hit three out of four PACE initiatives of Promoting, Advocating, Certifying, and Educating the value methodology worldwide – what has your chapter done this year? Think about partnering with another organization to form a synergistic relationship that will benefit both organizations and ultimately our communities.
