By Bob Rude, PE, CVS-Life – Chairman, SAVE International Certification Board
Recently, we announced several changes to the SAVE International certification program. As with any change there were questions asked and concerns raised. To help address those questions, I am pleased to provide some additional information.
As we implement changes to the program, I want to assure to those who are currently certified that you will not lose any pre-paid fees or time left on your current certification. Each change will have accommodations built in so that you are not short-changed.
All Certified Value Specialist (CVS) recertification requirements remain unchanged until June 1, 2017. Candidates are to continue preparing the same recertification materials currently required. They will also pay the required recertification fee of $360 USD ($960 USD for non-members) as currently required. This recertification fee covers a four year period – which means that candidates will be paying into the future years, beyond June 1, 2017.
Many CVS recertifications have already been granted prior to today. Those payments and paid thru dates will continue to be valid, even if they extend past June 1, 2017.
Beginning June 1, 2017, the requirements for CVS recertification will change. Renewal fees will be paid annually. Those with paid thru dates after June 1, 2017 will keep those dates and fall into our yearly payment schedule once your current paid thru date is reached. At that time, you will be required to pay an annual fee of $90.00 USD ($240 USD for non-members) for CVS renewal.
Also beginning June 1, 2017 is the requirement to begin acquiring Professional Development Hours (PDH). You will be required to submit proof of these PDH’s once every two (2) years, and will do this using an affidavit attesting that you have obtained the required hours. This will be submitted along with your annual fee payment. We will be publishing the qualifying PDH activities in the second quarter of 2017.
Please remember, the start date for these changes is June 1, 2017. Until then it is business as usual for CVS applications, exams and recertifications.
The Certification Board and the SAVE business office are working together to anticipate the many questions and issues during this transition time. If you have any further questions, please let us know and we will do our best to answer them for you.
Thank you for your continued support of the SAVE certification program!
