70 Years!
1947: The Baby Boomers were celebrating their first birthdays. The average new home price was $6,600. The Polaroid Land camera was first demonstrated. Bell Laboratories invented the transistor. Thor Heyerdahl’s Kon-Tiki smashed into the reef on Tuamotu Islands. India and Pakistan gained independence from Great Britain. The cost of a gallon of gas was 15 cents. A UFO was allegedly found in Roswell, New Mexico. The U.K. nationalized its coal mines. The United Nations voted in favor of the creation of the independent State of Israel. Jackie Robinson took to the field with the Brooklyn Dodgers to become the first African American in Major League Baseball. The CIA and the IMF were established. The classic holiday film, Miracle on 34th Street, premiered. Stephen King, Elton John, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Farrah Fawcett, and Arnold Schwarzenegger were born.
And, Lawrence D. Miles created the concept of Function Analysis that led to the development of Value Analysis!
I hope to see you all at the end of August in the great City of Philadelphia to reminisce a bit and look to the future of the Value Methodology with value professionals from across the globe and in all fields. We are delighted that the leadership of each of SAVE International’s affiliates and will be joining us this year – from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, India, Hungary and China. Officers from SAVE’s chapters as far away as the Gulf Chapter and the Eastern Mediterranean & Africa Chapter will be traveling to Philadelphia to participate in the events. This will be an exciting time to hear what is happening around the world in government and industry, to learn new applications of VM, and to meet new friends!
