“If you look at history, innovation doesn’t come just from giving people incentives; it comes from creating environments where their ideas can connect.” ~ Steven Johnson
As I was organizing my collection of past work, I came across a document that was given to me by Larry Miles when he visited Chicago in 1983. He talked about his ideas and how others helped him to expand his approach. I wanted to share this history wanted to know the people and chapters behind the formation and initial growth of SAVE International.
Please click here to read about the history.
The document talks about the beginning of the VE techniques, Growing Pains, the need for national recognition, launching of the society, and Expanding Horizons through Journalism. Here are some interesting facts from the document:
- First annual SAVE meeting attendance was 26 people
- First publication of SAVE Journal of Value Engineering was published September 1962. Value World is 55 years old this month
- Dallas/Fort-Worth has the honor of the first chapter, established in November 1960
- Los Angeles was the largest chapter with 217 members
- Michigan and Connecticut had two chapters
There is more in the document that you can read yourself. There were so many people who created an environment to propagate Larry Miles idea and his vision. Let us continue this spirt as we celebrate the 70 years since the formation of VE concept.
