One of the most satisfying aspects of the sharing of examples of Value Methodology done well is the infectious nature of creativity, and the opportunity to ignite the spark of the VM mindset in others. This issue of Value World will feature a summary of the project that won the University Challenge Award for Value Engineering for the Arizona State University team.
Steve Kirk, Chris Kmetty and Geza Kmetty are instructors for the ASU Construction Management graduate program, and their course has given these students the foundation, tools and encouragement to use these skills to help others. Improvements to the operations of the Agua Fria Food Bank were the team’s focus, and this excerpt will highlight the most significant proposals affecting the Food Distribution Process.
As Steve reports, both the Food Bank and the students were excited and pleased with the results; and in this current holiday season, the Food Bank staff and clientele are realizing efficiencies they much appreciate.
This example of engaging young professionals in practical applications of the Value Methodology is so important, and instills the enthusiasm for VM in a new generation. We should all look for opportunities to inspire others to use this remarkable tool more widely.
Effective communication is one key to teaching and inspiring others, and to that end, this issue features an introduction to the new SAVE International® Value Methodology Glossary, a tool described by Bob Rude in this month’s Certification Forum. Be sure to remember this resource when studying for any certification exams. We also want to second Mike Pearsall’s invitation to submit new papers for the 2018 Value Summit. We count on our members to communicate innovations and lessons learned, and aspire to reach a new audience.
